Streamyx Broadband
Streamyx or TMNet Streamyx formerly is the dominant internet service provider for Malaysian.
Streamyx is also the only fixed broadband internet service provider in Malaysia. TM Berhad or formerly referred to as Telekom Malaysia Berhad is the parent company of Streamyx.
Obviously TM Net offers its internet Digital Subscriber Line broadband with the brandname Streamyx.
TM Net was set up in 1995 by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (which later transformed into TM Berhad) as part of Malaysia National Broadband Plan. It was originally started as a trial basis between TMnet and COINS.The first commercial test of xDSL by TM was done by a service known as HiS that was deployed jointly with Ericsson in 1999.
The first Streamyx internet broadband service was released in 04 2001 at speeds of 384kbps.
In 06 2007, TMnet commences the 4MBpsbroadband service which is currently, is the highest speed available.
On 10 12 2009, TMnet announced a new 15mbps fiber optic service under High Speed Broadband (HSBB) and is anticipated to be launched by March 2010. At present the Malaysian internet infrastructure have been revealed as not meeting the latest specifications as needed by basic web applications such as that of YouTube, Skype. Therefore concludes that Malaysia may not in the long run harvest the benefits of broadband internet service. The HSBB or High Speed Broadband project was conceptualized to improve Malaysia internet infrastructure to that of a developed nation.
